Lacquer art is one of the unique cultural beauties of Vietnam, with a long history of development passed down through many generations of artisans. Vietnamese lacquer originated from traditional red and gold lacquer techniques, mainly applied in decorating altars and wooden furniture. By the early 20th century, lacquer art began to develop into an independent painting genre at the Indochina College of Fine Arts.
